If you take dry beans, then freeze dry them using the harvest right dryer, is that like the best of the best to store away long term and retain nutrients. Of course in a mylar bag with oxygen absorbers, is mason jars sealed dry canning at least good for 5 years Steel cut Oats, Dry Beans, Corn Meal probably pushing it, Rice, and I tried some dry Lima Beans NO NO NO I am attempting to sprout some fresh is no question better option on Lima beans.

Of course guess cant freeze dry what is already dry?? Maybe have to put moisture in dry beans to freeze dry.
I will at some point get a dehydrator or a freeze dryer. Freeze dried goods are supposed to last longer than dehydrated ones. But, again, I have seen commercially packaged dehydrated foods to have a 25+ years shelf life. Go figure. LOL
I am not quite sure you need to go that far dry grains. I am not sure why you would want to introduce moisture into it, then freeze dry it again. If it's already dry and you want to take the extra step, I supposed it wouldn't hurt.
Perhaps someone more experience than me in this would share their knowledge.
Most of the freeze dried food put out by companies like Mountain Houses, Legacy, Patriot Supply, and so on, are mostly pre-cooked meals where moisture was added that need to be removed or fruits that contain moisture. I just checked on Mountain House web site, and they don't have anything that is just grains or legumes alone. All their items are pre-mixed and cooked meals that are freeze dried, so one can simply re-hydrate and consume, even with just cold water.
Based on that, I would make an educated assumption, that if you pre-cooked your beans, rice, and other, then yes freeze dried them is a must. If I am wrong, someone out there please correct me.
Also, we should be rotating out our stores anyway. This will minimize something to sit in storage for way too many years. Make sure you rotate out old stock and consume them. Just like a homestead, it's location, location, location. Food storage plan, it's rotation, rotation, rotation. LOL
True and Thanks I was thinking out loud it's good I'm thinking but my thinking is not always making good sense :)
@East Tennessee Shoot! At least you are still thinking. Too many are not. Thinking and asking questions, always works for me. LOL
A good source for freeze dryer is YouTube retired at 40 live life simple He experiments with even stuff like raw eggs, has good video on how to use harvest right to vaccuum seal Mason jar. I want one dont really need it or have room would prefer spending the 4 thou so you don't have to mess with oil as much.
I have been freeze drying for about a year. We are putting back proteins such as eggs and chicken cuts along with whole milk. I would think that there is significant moisture still in the legumes. I will run a batch and report.
Thata Awesome I will get one after I can catch up a little Thank
@Steve That would be great to know. White rice has a longer shelf life than brown rice for that reason, I believe.
Appreciate the input. :-)
