I see people buying or talking about feed corn to put back for food. Where are you getting yours?
Tractor Supply, Rural King, local grain mill?
I hear some saying that you can't use the feed corn from these places because its been treated with chemicals. So how do you know if it is or isn't ?
I've found a place that sells popcorn in 50 lb bags and have read that it makes good corn meal when ground, has anyone done this?
What does the tribe say?
anything would work in a pinch but i would just take the time and invest in corn made for humans consumption its more expensive and less in quanity but it will add up after awhile and before you know it you have a good amount in stores....
I've seen TJ (Bear) in one of his videos with a truckload of corn that he bought and I can't remember exactly how much but it was a couple thousand pounds for a few hundred dollars. I'd like to do the same for my family.
Buying corn in number 10 cans or 5 gallon buckets would cost me 10 times that much, and when you're trying to stack it to the rafters like us that money saved could be spent on other food preps.
I think TJ gets it from a local mill in bulk. I havent been able to find one near me.
Guess I’m lucky I live in the corn belt and farmed here for 17 years raising corn each year. The only treated corn is that which is used for seed. It is treated with a fungicide. Don’t buy this. Other than that, all corn could be used for human consumption Just depends on what company buys it and what purpose they are using it for. Popcorn will work but is more expensive than field corn. I buy from a local farmer as he is harvesting. A local grain elevator may have corn depending where you live. That would be your cheapest source. Google grain elevator and give them a call. Good luck
I just picked up 1-1/2 tons of corn from the farmer for just under $200.00.
TSC is as good as any and they will bulk discount or even do military disc. Freeze it, sift it, bucket it.
Thanks for all of the replies.
I live in Ohio and have a rural place so I'm going to contact one or two local grain mills and give it a try.
It is $5.50 - $6.00 a 50lb Bag from a Elevator/Mill by me.
