Hello everyone,
I am shopping for a new BoB and have been looking at Maxpedition bags. I am trying to decide if their Prepared Citizen or Entity line is best so I remain as inconspicuous as possible, or if I should get a Mountaineering style bag from FjallRaven. Current plan is to go to a place that is approximately 500 miles away from where I am currently located, hopefully getting as far as I can be vehicle. I am fairly new to prepping, and my current BoB is a tactical style camo bag. I want between a 23L-30L bag. I like that Maxpedition has CCW built into the bag. I understand personal preference comes into play here, so I am asking from more experienced preppers. If I had to bug out, I would be leaving an urban environment. I will post what is in my bag a bit later. Thank you Bear Nation
max makes good bags but always remember get your gear first then get the bag that will fit it...don't get the bag first and then try cramming things in it....
For sure, thanks Wally
One other thing to keep in mind is the distance, you mentioned ~500 miles. Assume that if you are "bugging out" things might already be in bad shape. Start to study the areas between your point A and point B. You would want to plan alternate routes and have (paper versions) maps prepared for these routes. Your 500 mile route could easily become double that. You might also not always be able to take a road, so having a plan to cover ground using something other than a standard vehicle might be a good idea. It could end up being the shoe leather express for some of that mileage. This would also impact the gear you can carry with you.
Just some suggestions, enjoy. :)
Thank you for the great insight. I began to do some map routes with alternates, but they are all along main roads/freeways. There are smaller roads, but I have yet to take those to the place I am going. That will be next on my list. I am also in the process of trying to find a second, more near location, but currently do not know anyone in my surrounding area where I could get to. I imagine if SHTF, California is going to be a freaking nightmare to navigate. I am stacking food/water/ammo so I can hunker down for as long as possibe.
