Announcement to share, taking the leap, "to do the things, all the things."
My wife and I have purchased a new home in a "Free Zone". The property has enough room for a large garden and some animals. The areas population density is very low, as of the last census there was 14.2 people per square mile. We've already met two of our new neighbors and they are great people and very like minded.
This is a big jump but its time. Both my wife and I are in agreement that the time has come to leave the crazy of the suburbs and get to where we need to be. We currently live in the suburbs of a major metro area and the level of crazy is increasing on a daily basis. It's hard to leave the big job with a steady income but we have planned for this and should be just fine. I was on vacation for nearly two weeks from work while we closed escrow on the new property and took possession of the keys. I was already doing some work around the property but it felt good to be outside and doing something I loved. It didn't seem like work or time poorly spent.
I doubt that much will get planted this year due to timing. But the dirt will get prepared for next spring. I'm planning a fairly large garden and planting fruit trees. My wife's brother has been an almond farmer for many years. His comment on the fruit trees was,"Do you know the best time to plant those tree is?". My reply was,"When?", that's when he looked at me and said,"Ten years ago." It was a good laugh but they'll be in the ground next spring and before I know it I'll be rolling in fruit.
Very much looking forward to producing our own food. Living a much less stressful life and being part of a solution. Many of our neighbors have cattle and other animals. I've already talked with one and he has agreed that anytime I need beef just let him know and we'll find a way to make a deal.
