I did a basic search and could not find a thread on this subject already. So some things we know are very obviously made in America by Americans, while other things we know are very obviously made over seas with slave labor.
So what I am looking for are:
1) Brands that people have used (particularly clothes and shoes) that are good products and made in America.
2) Brands that people have used that are made out of country but are maybe a small company that ethically makes a quality product.
Did a quick search on Duck Duck Go and immediately found this ... do your homework before you ask please ... I dont mind helping... https://blog.cheapism.com/made-in-america-clothing-17496/
I've heard of only 2 or 3 of those companies before, have you used any of them? Sorry if you feel this post is a waste of time but the hope was to get recommendations from actual people not just a random internet search.
I wasn't feeling like it was a waste of time. I'm sorry that you felt that way. I guess I should explain myself. We're so used to buying cheap, not made in America products that we don't recognize them. Most of those listed in the article that I noted, are very good brands. You will pay a lot more for American quality. I have purchased quite a few of them in the past because I grew up in a time when we 🎵"looked for the union label when you are buying a coat, hat, or blouse ..."🎵 so the old "Buy American" ad jingle went. I still try to buy American or a least fair trade, but now that I'm older and not earning more, it so very difficult to do.
Some New Balance shoes are made in America.
Nicks boots are made in america, pricey but good quality and they can be rebuilt so if you take in longevity thetre comparable to what used to be the good boots brands, my husband started blowing through chippewa boots in half the time he normally does and we found out theyre sourcing their materials more cheaply.
Some dulluth stuff is made in USA, and its not a horrible product. Lol at least it wasnt ( i havent been there in a year). Textiles are tough.
Some Carhart products are made in America, but you have to look for it. Yes, expensive.
Things made in America are priced higher because it takes a higher wage to make it here. And for many products it is still about quality. Makes me picky about my knives, that's for sure (Fobos Knives are my go to for large knives/small batch runs, or Ontario Knife Company)
Just found this, im going to have to go through my knives, it says buck is still made in the us as well, but i didnt dig too far beyond the title, my husband likes buck, ive always carried gerber without putting too much thought into it, when i was working my knives mostly got used for ripping valvestems out of tires so while the knives you reccomended look great, theyre a bit rich for me 😳 i break/lose them too often to spend that kind of cash... I have a few nice handmade ones bit my edc is usually a cheapy as they get used for prybars more often than not...
Replying to myself to say that i dont doubt those knives are worth the money, i think alot of our problem s as a country would be solved if we focused on having fewer, but better quality items and repairing them ourselves than having the most/the newest/coolest stuff at the lowest cost possible, hell im still wearing clothes from highschool because i take care of them/mend them/ dont much care if im in fashion, god knows my goats dont care 🤣 at any rate this is the commitme ive made to myself, to live by this principle and shop as small as i can
