Definitely a concern is the distance between us. Some are separated by hundreds of miles. This is a good thing really, if you're being evacuated from a metro area, either by public order or self initiative, having five locations within a days walk is nice but they too would be effected by the same situation as you. Where do you go?
Having a MAG member, 100 miles away may be the salvation. Bring your own things offer up your skills and get to know each other before you show up in a person's AO but we can overcome the distance. Thoughts?
I have considered this in 2010 after a Major flood that devastated our Region. I am flying out to close Family in September to visit and talk about just that. Bugging out to their location. I have Medical skills that are specifically specialized for my Uncles condition. He started prepping quietly about when I did. He has preps that compliment mine and I have a skills set (Medical Expert) that would be nearly impossible to duplicate. Very cool he moved his grown children to his location a few years ago out of the big city. God is in control. Shalom
When planning your route/routes (have multiple) to your bug out location look at all options, not just along highways and railroads. Rivers can a great way to travel if your bug out location is down stream. Some of the big rivers have locks and or dams. But fear not, if you have packed light enough you will be able to portage around them. Travel light, travel fast, and conserve energy where you can. Bugging out is not the time or place to be lugging around gear that is not essential in getting you to your bug out location Best thing about traveling down stream is that you are still getting closer to you destination when you are resting.
Indeed you could float right past my house!
@Cherie If you are ever in a situation were you power has been out for 3 plus days and you see a canoe floating by with 4 people in it squawking at each other in hushed tones. Try not to laugh. We will still be fighting over whose turn it is to do dishes next.
@Cherie he'll have to portage the locks. Beautiful areas up around Winona and lacrosse
@Patriotic Trucker hmmm. Sounds like spider points 😉. I'm thinking it would be a wise choice to establish such things sooner rather than later, and protocols to go with.
Thanks. Got it.
Where would you go? Great question PT. So lets say you do know where you are going, and the phone lines are down. It would be very beneficial to have the capabilities to communicate with members of your tribe or MAG along the way to your bugout location. If you are leaving an area because of a dangerous situation, you can inform them to stay away. You become a valuable asset just by passing general information or let them know if trouble is heading there way.
The only thing I can say about my plans is that those with comms will be in touch. Hopefully on a regular basis.
Hit me up if your ever heading through Clovis New Mexico.
