Hi everyone,
I see a lot of disorganized and sporadic communication within Maine. I'd love to see something become of it as it seems many have an interest. I know things are nuts right now but I think, as Bear says, we can "be adults" and figure out a way to safely interact. I have seen just in the last couple days a few in my immediate area and I know there are several more more north of us.
Would those interested in forming a MAG or tribe be willing to find a time to meet up? There is a park on Rt. 35 in Standish that would be a great place to meet with lots of space and easy to find. We can throw some dates around if it's something you are interested in. My husband and I have talked about finding others to network with and form relationships with and we just aren't seeing anything coming together. So, I'm giving it a go. I think meeting up and seeing if our personalities mesh is the first step, we can keep it casual and if it doesn't seem like a fit we only lost an hour of time.
Please comment if you are serious! Thanks guys!
Wish standish wasnt almost 3 hours
Well, this stinks....I commented earlier today and now it isn't here. I am very interested. Unfortunately, with the nuttiness going on and this being planting season.....I am a one person show here and do not have a lot of time to travel right now. Please keep me in mind for when the season slows down a bit.
I hear that, we are busy on the farm as well. Maybe we can plan something up your way soon too.
@Haunted55 One-man-show during planting season - that IS busy! :) I've seen you be pretty active on here. Do you want some extra hands for planting? :
@GenerationsFamilyFarmandHomesc Thank-you for asking! Right now, as long as the weather holds up, I think I'm okay. I haven't bothered with the actual planting yet, not with the snow we keep getting. I need to get the ground turned a few times and then amend it hardcore and use the cultivator on it. A lot of the time you see me on here is because #1 it's raining or snowing or some other weather related mess or #2, I'm giving my poor old back a break for a couple. Then there's always #3. Not knowing which needs to dealt with first...not fishing for help, lol. Sorry if it came across that way.
@HungerMoonFarm
Hi!
Yes, I think I know exactly the park you mean, although I'm not thinking of the name of it right now. :) My timing is fairly flexible, and I do plan on being right by that park tomorrow, as well as every other Friday, so May 8, etc... If those days don't work, I am available almost any time, with a day or two of a heads up! I appreciate your grabbing the bull by the horns, and starting to run with this. :)
@GenerationsFamilyFarmandHomesc What time are you typically there? I have to go through there tomorrow on my way to the feed store anyway!
Southern Maine here and I'd be interested in meeting up. I'm new to this whole thing but very very interested in learning what I can from others.
Awesome. @HungerMoonFarm Sorry I missed you for today - we had an appliance break last night, so my day was thrown off a bit!
This is so good though.
What if we plan to meet on Friday, May 8th at 12 pm at Johnson Field (on 35 in Standish)? I'm just throwing a date & time out, so we begin the process of figuring out that detail... @hektac @Noelle Curtin and any others near Windham, Portland, Jay, etc., please feel free to weigh in!! Looking forward to connecting.
That should work good for us pending weather of course! Pray for sun 😅
@HungerMoonFarm Sounds good! :)
@C Michael Martell @Cru42
Hope you can make it, too? :D
If not, but if you're still interested in helping to set up or coordinate a local MAG / prepping support network around here, please feel free to chime in on date, time, location, and/or other details!
@Mainah Family You too? :) Not sure if the distance would be worthwhile... Blessings, though, either way!!
Too far south for me, I'm located on Mount Desert Island, surrounded by Acadia National Park. If you get a group together, I've been teaching wilderness survival for 39 years and I'd be glad to put on a class or have a weekend campout with some classes when the campgrounds open.

Thanks Dan, sounds awesome.
That sounds great, thank you! We will definitely be in touch.
Hi! I would love to meet in Standish
@Noelle Curtin Awesome! :) Does 12 pm (noon) on May 8th (this Friday) at Johnson field work well?
I just drove by the park and it says it's closed, I assume due to the stay at home stuff. Is there another location that would work?
@hektac How about just meeting at that Scenic Overlook, right down the road, just for meeting, this first time? Thanks! :)
@HungerMoonFarm
@Noelle Curtin
unfortunately noon isn't a good time for me. sorry I am just seeing this. Maybe we can make a facebook group? My baby usually naps around noon, so if one day we could meet in the morning or after 2 that would be best for me. Sorry to be difficult lol
@Noelle Curtin That's ok! I don't do Facebook, just Instagram. @GenerationsFamilyFarmandHomesc Would it be possible to change the time seeing as it's just a few of us? If not we can keep it the same and shoot for a better time next time.
I also don't do facebook. If meeting in person is not possible this time we could always try a zoom or hangouts meeting for now
@hektac We can keep tomorrow's meet up and just plan another one again soon. I still plan to be at the Scenic Overlook at 12 noon tomorrow. I hope to see you and anyone else who can join there! First steps, good enough is good enough! 😄 In the future we can figure out better means to communicate between ourselves than the forum.
Hey, we are here at the Outlook, going to hang out for a bit. It's 12:16.
Hey everyone! I found a great deal on canning jars and lids online on the Fleet Farm website. A case of 12 regular mouth Ball jars is $7.99 right now on sale and shipping isn't crazy either. I got about 10 cases and a bunch of lids and the shipping was only $20 from way out west. Regular mouth lids are only $2.19 a box, that is amazing. I have noticed jars and lids are starting to sell out on larger sites so I am grabbing up what I can afford to. Big gardens need lots of jars to preserve that food, shelf stable is the best way to store it in case of grid down. We are planning to can a lot of meat this year too since freezers are getting hard to buy as well. If anyone needs help with canning please reach out, I have years of experience and truly love to teach it!
Sorry for not showing up, I ended up having to go into work for a few hours and couldn't make
That's ok, we are planning another meet up on May 22nd at 2pm, location TBD. Might try somewhere not so exposed yet easy to find. We are open to suggestions!
Thanks for the heads up hungermoon, literally went on and placed a good sized order minutes ago.. I had a decent stash of lids and bands but I have a feeling we will need more. Not like they wont get put to good use.
That's great! Glad it was a useful tip! It was really on my heart this morning and felt I needed to stock more, I couldn't believe those good prices!
Ok, so the next meeting will be May 22nd at 2pm at Roberts Farm Preserve in Norway, Maine. Thank you @Noelle Curtin for the location suggestion! It looks like a really nice spot. Looking forward to seeing anyone who is able to make it!
Meetup planned for July 18th 2020 in Jay. It's under MAG in Forums from Haunted 55 named Maine First Dates. Please see that posts for more info.
