Hi, we're up near Standish & Sebago, but we moved up here just a few years ago from the Scarborough area... I'm pretty new to Patreon BI, but grateful for the connection opportunity here! :) Are you still interested in possibly connecting?
Hi Cru42, we're near Standish & Sebago... where are you guys located? I'm pretty new to Patreon BI, but grateful for the connection opportunity here! :)
You know, it's a funny thing...if you look at the different places we are located, it's no wonder there aren't a lot of healthy MAGs or Tribes in this state.
Ok, seems like many of us are well-versed in prepping and have their own strengths and weaknesses.
I'd really like to get together and just sit down, have a cuppa coffee, and see who is out there. When the SHTF, I would like to know whom I may need to go to for help. No man is an island and we all need each other. I'm willing to drive 4 hrs one way if needed.
I live in auburn, I still dont know where anyone else lives, I am also willing to drive. If anyone wants to meet here that is fine with me. Just message me in the group chat and I will give you the address.
Alrighty folks. I heard back from the people I contacted by phone and they are very interested in doing this. Now for a date and a place. I am looking at either the 11th or the 18th of July. No idea about time, can be discussed, as some of us have animals to care for. The place I have in mind is actually a parking lot with some shade and we wouldn't be bothered there at all. No face masks unless you choose to partake. There is a McDonalds right there as well. All this is intended to be is the first date as Bear says. If it works out, we can move on from there. Input please.
Wow just finally getting these notifications. Would love to attend but were about an hour north of bangor, so its a bit far for us. Hope your meet up goes well!
Lol, DUH!!! As in I'm down with that. Trying to keep this loose and easy. Anyone who's interested should have a say, so it doesn't become more work than it's worth. I believe you are probably the furthest out as well.
LOL!!! Hey now! You stop picking on the old lady or it will be no cookies for you!

Also, any hints on what hens LOVE for treats out of the garden??? Mine are kinda picky... They love radish tops, nasturtium leaves and smart food so far, lol...
Not sure what you are growing, but mine love tomatoes. They also will go for any type of melon I may have left over. The potato peels, if cooked can be given to them as well. Sometimes what they won't eat today, they will fight for the next day. They can be idjits sometimes. also, make sure you store those seeds in a cold place. If you have the seal-a-meal, or whatever they call it now, use that to put what you aren't using this year up. Some seeds store well in the freezer, others want the bottom of your fridge. Either way, seal them to prevent moisture loss. I am growing plants from 2013 seeds I direct planted this year. Since the biggest problem with seed storing is the loss of the radiation of the seed nucleus [that's what makes it grow] anything you can do to slow that degradation down is in your favor.
You know, if you could put a compost pile near the chickens it would be good for their house cleaning and a place to get rid of the garden/yard waste. If given access to it, they will tear it up good so you don't need to do the turning much. Water it, yes if we run out of rain again, but they will pretty much do most of the work for you. If you are worried about smell, you can always add in a shovel of wood ash. Won't hurt them at all. My mixture for their dusting box is sand, peat moss, wood ash and a bit of diatomaceous. Never had a problem with chickens getting into wood ash and in fact, they will seek it out if they can. Like when I had to dump the ash bucket, because the big barrel was full and they found it in the Spring.
Yeah, yeah...you just want cookies! Seriously though, if I can help, I'm there. I've been putting in gardens for a few [read that as 35 yrs]. Am I the best, no, but will share any tricks and tip I have found.
Anybody afraid of german shepherds? I have a pup that needs exposure to different situations and being on leash but i dont have many opportunities to get out with just him, so ideally id bring him with me if i can make it but he can be a jumpy moron on leash so if that is going to make anyone uncomfortable just let me know and ill leave him home no hard feelings, i know people have a strong reaction to them and i dont want to put anyone out
