Has anyone had any success starting a group or tribe even talking about getting together with other people to start one, if one does not exist in your area. Chances are if one does exist they may not be very receptive right away. It take time to get to no people built trust and so on. And there are a lot of loons out there? It seem very stagnant here on the forum but, it is a new forum and limited people. I see people looking but I don’t see connecting, maybe it is happening in chat room moved off this forum? I have had a few contacts with folks, then nothing happens no responses. I think people don't want to put in the effort. I would like to see something happening. What ya all think?
I'm up in the Clarksville (Red River County) area. Any Groups this away? We are trying to move soon to a better homesteadable area but will be in this area. Thanks
I personally have had no luck. I think one person responded and it never went on from there.
I would not expect a lot of people right away. As we are seing. There are only 1500 +- members of the Bears whole Patreon Group, And maybe 100+- in this forum? We are not fishing in a big lake here.. I agree on communication none is not there. I had 3 or 4 responses and then they vanished? But I see no (Other Groups) forming or communicating? This can be a benefit to your group in the long run. I am going to go out side Ohio to meet a group from PJF. Viking group and see how they are organized. The leader I spoke with says it is very hard to get anyone together and keep people together at first. And he started buy going to an out of state meeting people also. People do not have to be in your state make other connections. Well we will see what happens. I just don't see anything happening here! You people have to make it happen.
Chow time. LAter
I am very interested and I am in a neighboring state. Perhaps we can discuss such matters in more detail? Let me know if your interested.
@curlessfamily Hello curlessfamily Yes i am cool with this, That is why I am here and someone u seem serious. Even just coffee and a sandwich or meet a State Park. We may not get many takers at first..Let try and connect up some time soon on the chat. I sent u a message let sent u one see if you got it . I received your hello. what is a good time for you I am semi retired so am am a little fleaibale. E.S.T. time I figure you are no more that an hour time difference it you are W. of me. I am heading to WV some time next month to meet with the Viking group and try to get involved and get something going in OH and or around Oh. A spread out thing is a good thing. Separate net can for close to home in time. then u work on more! or at least a connection.. But of course local is also the first goal. I would like it to be link up with the Viking Preparedness net. intime one step at a time.
I will be around about 7 to 730 est. we can move off to chat if we want o exchange any info, and think about this. Mike
Bear has a video on how to host your first meet and greet. You need to be out there meeting people and having conversations in order expand your social network. You wont find folks talking about the state of the nation and the need to prep at your local Target but you will at your local gun show, bee show, gardening expo, etc... Are you in a city? Look up local urban farmer groups and get a feel for who is who or get to your local gun range and take some classes which allow opportunity for longer conversations with fellow gun lovers. Start a small group that can meet online and share skill sets that can eventually grow into wanting to meet in person.
Hello Everyday..we are trying it is taking a while. I do not think any one has YET but we are trying.. Mike
Ditto for me too. I've actually made contact with one person that made the effort to meet up, but we're at the 3 hour limit for travel time. It's not a hard limit, of course, but we live in an area that gets difficult in the winter. I'm not against looking out of the immediate area, but again, I see a more local group as being more practical for realistic mutual assistance. I have been involved with other possible sources for prep-minded folks. Groups like CERT, various gardening groups, amateur radio clubs, churches, all have folks that, with a little effort, I think can turn into what we're looking for. That's the angle I'm taking now. A couple of non-vikings have shown interest, so we'll see.
Winfield We had a site prep show but was canceled not sure why.. Thanks for the suggestions on finding people. I have not had much luck all my ham buddies and ot prepper types I have know them 20 plus years. I have been licensed for a long time I think since 88..I am going to have to split now things to do.. be back this evening the chat box seem to let u leave a more private message?? I try yours..LAter Mike again..
We are on the same page I am just willing to go longer distances to meet folks at first any ways but 3 hrs is fine for me being in central OH that leave me about 3 or 4 states not to far away the North is the farthest away . Ya and w e get some weather here in winter. I see you name all over LOL. so I think wea re on the same page.. where u at? I have to run in about 5 min and not a good types.. And I think jing with the Vicing is the smartes thing to do get a large net that way as PFJ says.. Mike
if you're talking to me, I'm in Southern Oregon, East of the Cascades. They call it High Desert, but where I am there's enough water as long as nobody gets greedy(Lol, as if...). Finding a group here is chancy, as most folks that would see eye-to-eye with me have grown up here and already have an established circle( crew, tribe, whatever). This is also a battleground state. Big time.
Not yet on this site in Texas. We have a small group already. 2 Nurses, 1 Ex Military, 1 Engineer, and a couple of part timers. We are pretty far along on our preps but people are the key. 60 acres with Chickens, Cows, Horses, 1 acre Stock tank, Catfish, Perch, Green house, garden, 3 re-loaders, TONS of ammo, and putting a bunker in the ground next month. Just need serious people. Keep trying everyone and keep your powder dry.
Man if you were with 200 or 300 mile of me I would be looking you up sound great. But he serious people are hard to come buy aren't they well you have a great start..
I've been in contact with several people around my own and surrounding states using my knowledge to spark conversation and in doing so learning about the other people's knowledge base and building up these fledgling relationships through all available means from forum posts, email or the chat feature here. We've all been prepping for ourselves, a lone wolf mentality of I have 3 month, 6 month a year before I'm forced to seek assistance from others. The Internet is a huge ocean of people and finding another fish in your sector of the globe is akin to fishing that ocean without knowing a thing about fishing. Cast a wide net and you'll have better chances but investing time and energy into learning where the fish ARE will be better.
With that said, there seems to be some interest in the upper Midwest of an actual weekend gathering and planning is in the works to get the ball rolling on it.
I am very interested in attending the WI gathering!! Ohio sounds like a very Prepper focused state from the channels that I have followed. Working on what I can contribute. Skills. Thanks for the encouragement! We need to keep talking!
Hello Cherie..
Good on working on your skill what u working on. Like you eagle store he had a nice chicken meal.. these thing happen even thought we try not to let it be so. Wisconsin is a bit far to go from Ohio for, I will drive 3 hour one way that is about my max. S. Michigan is about my northern limit, for now. I am in center of Ohio. Been working on trying to get a couple of people from Ohio or the bordering states together here, we have not even meet live yet, or talked on a phone. And plans not confirmed, people work, it is hard to schedule. I am heading to 2 of the Viking meetings in other states to see how they set thing up, and just meet some new like minded folks. There are no groups in Ohio associated with Bear or PJF.. PJF said knows of a group here also, at least not a Viking group. Also you just do not find people you can trust 100% overnight. It is a time thing, it usually has to be built up over time, you kinda know it you can feel good about someone. Keep on pushing, Hey keep in touch,
Blessing. Mike LAter
@Mike Ault definitely a drive for a weekend with strangers especially if you're in the middle of the entire state. With the planning for the "Midwest Encampment" I have found that most of the group is from mostly Eastern and Central areas so a meet and greet makes sense to be on the East side of the state. For Ohio if there was interest, maybe the try state area of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio down around Hebron or Cincinnati areas.
@Patriotic Trucker That would be the western S.W. corner of Ohio for Cincy area etc.or in an other state is ok. If any one is interested in a tri state meet up. they need to speak up.. I am sure we can work out a location. I keep saying this so people will realize it. You have to remember on this forum we are dealing with a small group of people and most are not active. Just watching.. unless they get active, not much will happen. And if you find anyone close to on this form it will be a miracle. So I hope it works out.
I don't think we have a hundred of bears tribe out of 1300 patreon's here? I think what people do as I said before they think they want to get on board them they realize they have to commit show up, and do stuff? Then the wife is not on board and a 100rd other reasons, jobs, kids yada yada.. I will keep working here and other places to find my self with a group or to form one, get with like minded people again, it will time and effort.. HA and on top of that I need to move not much will happen fast. Thanks Patriotic trucker I'll drop u my call in the chat some day but all my antenna except for uhf and vhf and those are only g.p.'s the beams down. Big winds hit, I am of HF. Going to to get some basic HF back up for the winter. All Suggestions Welcome on all subjects . Later Mike
@Mike Ault no worries. I could open a can of worms but I've been told not to kick a sleeping dog. All I'll say is I'm very open to the notion of sharing thoughts and ideas here. You're right, there's only a fraction of the patreons Active on the forums, I think of them as Sand Baggers, sitting silently listening but not doing much if anything. That's ok.
Preppernurse1 And Prepper Princess are two chanels that people from OHIO trend High. Especially Preppernurse1. Check out his Private register to meet like minded. He is a Nurse so he has a different approach or perspective than Bear but has value none the less! Good person
As far as I can tell preppernurse1 is in NY last PO. box.? P.O.Box does not mean you live there! And I did not see a Private register anywhere. And I have not watch Pepper Princess but once I think. There are a lot of different direction you can go in the prepping lifestyle, I think they are all needed. If you find a link to an PN1 "Ohio Private Register" Please let me know you may have to donate?.. Although I am sure I will find some people here or on my own I have in the past. I just need to stay in touch I am guilty of letting relationship drift away, of most people do in time. Keep in touch Thanks Mike LAter
I have not viewed preppernurse1 for 5 years or more. To be honest with you I did not like his content or presentation or something he seem like a good guy just could not finish his videos many time. I will try again. I though he was further south like N.C but I will look into him. Not that they compete at all I am a big Patriot Nurse fan and her man Reid also. I have not been very actively looking for people for a long time, but I have kept prepping. We had a good group of people after 2000- 2010 Most have moved on lost interest move out West or N.W. I have been feeling safe and secure for a long time. But decided to come out of hiding in the last year at least by posting. And I have a good amount of time on my hands.. And great progress on this site with people showing an interest they hardly respond or don't respond at all, and I understand that. Really there are not a lot of contact happening here. that I see maybe in the private chats they are. That is why I posted the main post and most people who are looking are have very little no luck according to what they say. I was kind of surprised? Like I say people are busy, that is the main reason. Or they may know I am an older guy lol, think I could not keep up.. We would see about that I am nor 40 year old but I can move. I will get something going I am hoping to move again with the next year in Ohio or somewhere else not sure yet doing some road trips soon.
@Mike Ault From your last post, I recognize you probably won’t see this for a day or two, but you mentioned looking about in a year or so. I recognize everyone has different criteria, but I’ve been looking real hard at the area around Decorah Iowa. Seems to have a lot to offer. Keeping in mind Iowa is not a off grid friendly state. Amish and Mennonite have several settlements around the state though.
@Ron Impens Hi Ron. I am always lookin. E.W. S....N. is to cold for my old bones any more. This is the last move for sure. I would like to have settled on a property of one with house by end of the coming year, but we will see. Well you mentioned off grid. I do not have to be 100% I like the connivance of the grid. I don't want to live 100% of grid unless I need to or have to. But having the means to do it if you can over years yes, good idea. As far as Iowa I have no Idea. I have never researched the state. But I think you are over looking your Amish and Mennonite's. neighbors you should not. We have probably one of the largest number of Amish families in the county here in Ohio. I think? Mennonite are coming back I believe they population went down big time many years ago. Get to know them the best they will let you. But give it time start to nurture the Amish they may be very stand offish for a long time don't be pushy. It may take years get to know them. You will never get to be a good friend with them. But they are a good contact and business resource for you and you to them. Once they trust you and you trust them, Hire them for a small job buy some stuff from them talk with them although they may be stand-offish for a long wile. Show up at there auctions just act interested. You will stand out but they won't care. Over a few years you could really benefit from a few Amish business associates for Trade and Barter an mbey even learn some stuf. They like that as well as money we do, lol.. Just say in I know people that do business with them here in Ohio.. Hope that helps and I answered any questions? LAter Mike
@Mike Ault I certainly understand. Believe me, I wasn’t over looking the settlements here. I was mentioning it as a positive. These are folks that many of us will be looking to for help if power grid were to cease. Decorah is in the NE corner of the state, low population density, many streams and rivers, lots of timber and wildlife. I had no difficulty getting my permit to carry in a different county. Land is about $6000-$8000 per acre. Those fellers in the Ozarks would be a great resource to live near, but they’ve done such a good job talking about it, I fear it will get crowded fast.
Agreed about Preppernurse1
Funny you agree someone like must like him he had a good size following.. Hey it takes all types ya know.. Keep in touch good chatting with you, Blessing and Shalom to you and yours, that why's I have you cover both ways. It is Shabbat LAter
Yes, yes I do think they are. I have been blessed with a phone call and other contact from good solid people. Maybe long distance, but so what? Right now we have the means to communicate. I'm using it and expanding my horizons. Will it turn into something else? Maybe, hope so, we'll see. I'm game. I agree about the weighing of the people who are speaking and looking on here. There needs to be a 'click' for the close/Tribe, not so much for the MAG. I have the high ground, the place and the space, so I'm good. I worry about others who may not be in that great a position. It's a darned scary thing to be putting yourself out there, especially with not knowing who and what you are dealing with. Especially if you have a family that depends on you. One mistake could be devastating.
I am confused on who you are speaking to? But yes Haunted55 u need to be Very Careful but a lot of people meet through casual meet ups. Even PFJ pushes everything from Volunteer work to certain clubs gatherings to meet folks. It is not an easy task to find many like minded people I don't think we are a sought after group to chum up with. Being rural already gives you an advantage I believe. You have to go slow and feel things out with each person. May take years for total comfort. I am not so sure I could trust a lot of the major players on the U tube & Patreon to be honest. It is also a living for them, they need to keep a good face on in front of the camera. It is as simple as some people u just don't click with, some you do. and time will tell the results.
If you don't seek you will not find you need to have connections tribe or community. I think we all have some type of phone call mags. But on line it is even more of a challenge to meet people and trust them. Lot of creeps out there. And I think everyone here is trying to expand their horizons. It is a smart thing to do. Vikings meet ups are growing slowly it takes time As John says below it is a commitment thing people are busy. and don't want to put time into the community. LAter
@Mike Ault I was responding to the general question. Yes, I do think people are meeting up here. Mike I always try to mention the person by name by responding to their comment. Sometimes the system doesn't put the name up and I may be stealing time between jobs I'm trying to get done. As you said, I am in a good place right now, so the need for actual feet on the ground isn't today. Although I could use a hand with grunt work..LOL!!!! No, if I can talk with people I can learn and maybe they can pick something up from me as well.
@Haunted55 Hey Haunted that all works and i have to jump ship for an hour there is alway time to pick up an other time.. I have seen no one really connect up yet and at least say it, I am tying. LAter
Meeting people is easy. Recruiting is HARD. My experience is that 99% of people we talk to either are not reasonable candidates or self-de-select when they realize the commitment is more than beer and bbq. But I do appreciate Bear putting this together!
Wow! Ok. So could you please weigh in on why MOST who prep are Male and many are Christ followers and many have either/and background in Military or LEOs?? I am female, non-Military or LEO but very aware before “Prepping” was “a thing ”.! Just curious to hear others perspective. Why only 3%? Why mostly male?
Who are you responding to Cherie John, this get confusing sometimes the flow of the conversation.. and is he talking with Haunted55?
@Mike Ault Agreed that it's hard to follow at times. As to Cherie's questions... I don't know that most preppers are Christian or military/LE, at least outside of statistical norms (most Americans still identify as Christian). I could be wrong, maybe very wrong.
The 3% thing comes from the legend that only 3% of the colonists actually took up arms against the British in the American Revolution. I'm NOT a III%er - I've known a few that identify with that crowd and let's just say that my goals do not align with their goals. Not saying they're wrong or misguided, just basing it on my very small sample size.
@John Hart so what exactly are you looking for? I don't understand what you wrote...you're not a what? I think this place is a great place to see who is out there and what the actual mind set is. I have no illusions that I am going to be building a tribe or a mag here. Most are not where I am. Doesn't matter in the end. Connections matter, no matter how they are right now. Cherie may need a place to run if it all goes south. She knows she is welcome here. The same with some others. Meeting people is easy, you're right, but if you're looking for a bookworm, you go to a library. Most people out there are in total denial over what most of us are feeling and seeing. They're just skipping down the road to perdition. Them ain't what you want around you if and when it goes down. That will get you the long sleep. I look at the overall like a marriage. The tribe, you will be married to, oh yes you will. So you'd better be looking for the right ones to be a part. Go with your gut.
Sorry John, yes I was attempting to ask you AND anyone else.
No I don't think it is mostly male Cherie not at all. I think he is saying that 99% of the people don't commit and I agree with that to the tribe or group once they see it is not party..
LAter Cherie every one must be in chat mode.....
@Mike Ault definitely agree. The amount of time, energy and money tends to turn off many people. A golden triangle can be formed, you can only have two of the three. No time, no energy, will cost you money. Save money, will cost you time and energy. Save money and time, expect to spend a lot of energy (man hours of a crew) to get it done...
I am orginally from nw ohio moved east Tennessee 3/4 yrs now have and I put a post out on here from around the area or few hours drive, few people responded I messaged back and nothing
I haven't gotten any replies to my post here in Nebraska either, but I wasn't really expecting it either. My plan/goal is to network locally with people I know at church and see if I can find interest there. We already have some friends that we get together with and do canning. The husband and I are gun nuts and have gone shooting with our kids before so I know we have some things in common weve just never discussed stuff like this. My hope is after broaching the subject they will be receptive and we can Branch out from there. They mentioned being interested in going in on some food storage because they know I have a lot for my family...my hope is that's the in road and we will go from there. Also the husband of the family is a mechanic by trade...pretty useful in a grid down to have someone that can get things running.
@Eric Blevins Wow sounds promising! The Lord will provide everything we need if we seek His face and are obedient to His will. Pray before you talk to him. Your post encourages me. My dad grew up in Hastings and we still have Family in that area and a little north. Godspeed
Hastings you say? I'm not too far from there.
Elm Creek? Holdridge? LOL. Kearney?
