Hey guys and gals,
I've been watching the youtube channel for a couple of months now and like the message! Considering subscribing on patreon at some point too.
I've been prepping for a few years now, but I've moved around so many times a lot of my preps have been more transportation-friendly and less of the "years of food in the basement" variety, although that's definitely where I'd like to be.
My wife and I moved to NH over a year ago for the freedom, but are considering moving to a lower pop. density state like Oklahoma or Idaho, not sure yet. We need to decide soon, so we can buy some land and start homesteading (crops, animals, off-grid power and water, etc.) before it's too late. Not sure how much time we have left before the current economic bubble bursts. That's not the only disaster that worries me, but it's the one I think we're going to face the soonest.
One thing I worry about is whether I can fit in because of my lack of religious upbringing. I have no issue with religious people (actually, I prefer them to atheists), but I'm not religious myself. Wasn't raised that way. I like Christianity and I think the bible has a lot of wisdom in it that I can learn from. So much, in fact, that the layers are kind of baffling. I listened to a Jordan Peterson lecture on the bible and my mind opened up a ton, I need to listen to the rest of his series.
Anyway, although I like Christianity and its offshoots, I don't believe in the way a real Christian does, and I'm not sure that will ever change. I'd feel uncomfortable going to a church because I don't want to be a fraud - people there will probably assume I believe in God when I don't, yet that's probably one of the best ways to meet good people. Is it weird that I share a lot of the values but not the beliefs?
What do you guys think? Would I fit into this community or not? I'm a staunch believer in freedom and being independent, if that helps :)
I don't go to church, but do believe in god, as you I didn't want to be a fraud. I know it says in the bible it says to forsake not the fellowship of other like minded people. I know it's a loose interpretation of the bible but that's ok. I get it. If you think you would like to get to know more about us(my wife and myself) send me a message. ...Bobbie
If you want to get a meet going you can contact me at bobbiebentertainment@yahoo.com or on facebook under the same name as above.....Bobbie
I can relate to much of what you are saying about fitting in. I think being open about it is a better bet than being a fraud to fit in.
i am moving my family to eastern Idaho, we toured the southern half of the state last Summer and chose the Idaho Falls area for a number of reasons. That part of Idaho is among the most affordable, and actually nice, but brutally cold. Oklahoma is cheaper if you want lots of land. If you chose Idaho, maybe we’ll run into each other sometime.
There's enough land to homestead in nh if you look in the right areas, (and lower population areas as well) it can be challenging but it is doable, there are a few of us homesteading in new england on the forum that i know of and i havent been on a week yet
Yeah, I think you're right. We've been looking around more and found some interesting parcels for sale, so we may very well end up staying here. It does seem like we'd have to be pretty much in the White Mountains to get into low population density areas.
@nhprepper im looking at the lakes region, there are alot of big lots left, that said dont be competing with me! 😂
coos county n.h. north of the notches I think is best. moved up here from southern n.h. ain't never goin back down below.
Agreed, I worked in the Pemi Ranger district for 16 years ,,though I'm from VT,,and further North is better in NH.
The Lakes Region though it has a bunch of bigger parcels, it's not that great an area with all the summer cluster muster , lots of traffic and tons of out of stater's invading it every holiday, I'd stay away from there to be honest. Tax's are high there too in most of the lakes region.
Check out North and West of Plymouth or Lincoln and away from the ski areas around Franconia and Washington Mt area. Then you'll find some really really nice spots away from it all and still close enough to amenities you'll need. The Wentworth, Warren , Lyme areas are really nice areas. If you want more mountainous areas, West of North Woodstock along around the Benton and Easton and the Mt Moosalaki area is really really nice but slightly more remote to amenities, but beautiful. Lots of good folks and really nice tight knit communities in all those areas too.
Stay away from the Hanover area too, it's a huge township and the regulations there are nuts,,ya can't do shit without a permit of some kind. High tax 's too
I've lived in NH all my life not counting 8 yrs in the Navy. I reside in Rockingham County but have spent a lot of time above the notches. I'd move there my self but finding a job that would pay. Still love it up there when I retire years form know that were I'll be going.
my own "Christian" mother drove me away from God for a long time. She teased me with her 20 acres I call survival land for the last 30 years. Now that I can "buy" it, my Christian mother stabbed my family in the back and backed out. I have always known in my soul, God is real. My childhood life of studying wildlife and nature on my own verified to me evolution is a joke, that there definitely has to be a creator. Being a Christian is not a religion. It's a personal relationship. The religion will fail you, as in the case with my mother. The relationship will comfort you, as in the case of my own realizations through His creation. Christians are not perfect, just forgiven. With my relationship with Christ, it is my duty to forgive my mother for her 'religion'. Hope that helps someone.
