Friends call me Chris. I’ll be 67 years old in 11 days. We started on the prepping journey late in life. I started trying to stockpile food, medical supplies, books/training manuals, weapons/ammo about 5 years ago, but haven't had unlimited funds, so I push each channel along as I’m able to.
I REALLY wish I’d started on this journey sooner in life, and whenever I counsel with younger men, I always urge them to think about making prepping a priority in life NOW, while they’re still young enough to have the energy to pursue it, and are still in their prime income earning years. I tell them that it’s not just about survivalism, but also about building memories with their families, and teaching their kids timeless values. It’s also about changing how they relate to money, and what can be done with it that is lasting. These are all lessons that have come later in life to me, and I wish I’d known all these things and been more attentive to them when I was younger, and more in my prime.
My wife of 31 years is generally in favor of my efforts to move things along, but she hasn’t really taken ownership of any of it. I think it is partly that she doesn’t want to contemplate a world in which all of these preparations might prove to have been essential. At least she’s ok with my efforts and not freaked out by them.
My next major step (besides continuing to buy/create preps as we can afford them) will be to acquire some land. We are dependent on a pending inheritance to do it, so it's going to take 3-5 years before we can pull the trigger on that. I do not plan to ultimately stay in North Texas. I’m looking at land in eastern OK, western AR, preferably in either the Ozarks or Ouachitas.
I can tell you that ALL of this stuff would be easier if I hadn’t started so late in life ... but better late than never, I guess.
There seems to be either a shortage of MAGs in this area (north Texas), or any that already exist are not open to new members are are keeping really tight opsec. But if anybody is interested in meeting, and investigating the possibility of a MAG, I’m open to meeting to see if it would be a good fit or not.
In the meantime, there’s two families in my immediate neighborhood that seem like they’d be interested in a cooperative relationship, so I plan to approach them soon.
Anyway, that’s a lot of info to share. I’m just glad to have found this website.
