Hello from Amarillo, Texas. I used to be one of the people that mocked preppers. Gradually over the past 10 years I have gone from mocking to respect and now I am a prepper of sorts. I have been scrambling recently.
We just bought and moved into this house right before Christmas 2019. I planned on gardening for fun. Then with this pandemic and sequence of events I have built six raised beds, a compost pile, and a supply room in our house.
I shopped and shopped and shopped for six weeks. My freezer under the fridge is full of meat and cheese. I don't want to keep a freezer in the garage in case electricity becomes an issue (i.e. rolling blackouts) so I will be canning and drying meat. I canned my first jars this weekend. My dehydrator is on its way. I have seeds in the ground.
I will keep rabbits and quail if the necessity arrises in the future. The county I'm in doesn't allow keeping chickens.
Any advice you have for a newbie prepper in suberbia is welcome.
God bless you all 🙏
