Hello all. 10 yr Navy vet. 6 yrs as FMF Corpsman (medic) attached to USMC. 4 yrs radioman/IT.
Just got my homestead with 11 acres here in the sticks of VA near Richmond. Stocking up on food (2 years) and ammo. Like Bear has stated, I went from adamant to militant on items such as food, ammo, etc. Working on some comms and my neighbors are like-minded.
Looking into goats and chickens this Spring, and doing some composting to start a garden here.
We here in Virginia are watching our elected officials closely, as they seem keep putting their domes up their posteriors quite frequently.
Looking forward to learning what I can here. Sic Semper Tyrannis!
Hoo-ya shipmate!
Good day from The Valley of Virginia. I have been ready all my life except the women in my life have always tripped me up a bit. I do need some help since I am medically retired and my neck and back are ruined among other parts. Born and raised Virginian and know this state like the back of my hand. Watching the elected as well. More later
I'm in Southern Maryland and would love to make your acquaintance.
Thank you

I'm in Gloucester VA on ~17 acres. I'm familiar with foraging, herb uses, & many survival skills. Would appreciate learning coms, etc. as I've no tech background.
we camped with the kids in glouster for years at Yogi Bear.. miss those days. I heard matthews county is mandating mask wearing from a co teacher that lives there.. he said 1st offence a warning then you will be fined $$$ crazy times. Once i get comms knowledge i would be glad to share with you . i know nothing of herb use adn foraging but think i ma pretty tech sava..lol have a great weekend.
@David H Good to hear from you, Thank you! I hadn't heard about masks/fines, unbelievable!! I used to pay the visitor day pass fee to take kids to the campground pool. Good memories. There's so much more to learn, but I used coms as introduction! Lol. I need a few more chickens & a rooster, & I'm interested in a pair of breeding rabbits. Also teaching myself to spin on a wheel... How about you? What are you currently focusing on?
Hey all, nurse in Va Beach, getting my preps going, started a garden, starting to learn about herbals. Still new at a lot of things.
Hey, someone in Hampton Roads area! Im roughly the same boat as you.
Hi bloodngutsrn, Congrats on your startup! Hope today's deluge didn't washout the garden. I started a few more seeds inside.
thankfully didn't do any damage. like you started some more seeds as well. been watching youtube, trying to get my gardening on, lol. getting used to the forum here, never done anything like this before. been reading the post for commo. a lot of knowledgeable people.
central Virginia here trying to find land in the hour commute area of Richmond. What general area did you settle on? We were looking into KW or Pow.
I don't know what prices are like in those areas but we bought acreage in Brunswick County back in 2012 for around $1,800/acre and there is still lots of land available and still at good prices. You just have to make an offer. Listings will show a higher price but the sellers will often take considerably less. It is farther away but only about an hour and a half drive to Richmond.
I ended up near Montpelier. I looked at Pow but did not, I say again NOT want to deal with that toll(s) going into and out of Richmond. Also the traffic. Powhatan is nice and rural but the drive and tolls wouldn’t be worth it to me. I got the rural by being near Montpelier. Very peaceful country setting on 11 acres with likeminded neighbors and farms around. No tolls going into Richmond or even Short Pump.
King William not so sure about. I wanted cooler weather and KW was towards coast.
Smithfield VA, enjoy camping/hunting Appalachian trail, just got a 16x8ft garden up and expanding it. I love the swamps and the country. Try to be as well versed as i can with my pews and emergency plans. Would like to expand my knowlegde and skills with comms. Also want to build a like minded community to learn and grow from.
looking good junkyard welder. doing the same here in va beach. have added to the rice & bean buckets, looking for dry corn, can't find any here may need to head down to N.C. Bless you & keep doing the things.
Hey there Devil Doc. Yes our elected officials do suck. I am thinking that Chase is our best bet this election. In the city of the monuments things are going south quick. I am not sure there is any hope for it.
As I said, I am in Richmond proper. No huge skill set to offer. Cooked for the last 20 some odd years. Fished like a demon when I was a kid. Backpacked in my youthier years. I have a small millsurp collection, That is as close as I ever got to military service. I would love to chat with you sometime. Maybe you could help me pare down the back up med kit in my grab and go backpack. It seems to have outgrown the pack. Be safe out there.
Hello fellow Virginians. I have been watching Bear for about 2 years now and have just only decided to join the forums. My family and I are in Lake Ridge, Virginia but trying to move out of the Northern VA region. We have been doing the things this year but have been preparing by stacking food and supplies for many many years.
Im hoping to find like minded people in the state to reach out to in times of emergency and to also be a resource for those who are in need as well. Currently and thanks to Yah, we are pretty well stocked up on food, water and security but are now focusing on secondary things like medical, communications (studying for the Technician License exam currently) and education/skills.
Shalom to all!
Hey Tyler W! I used to live in Lakeridge and about 17 years ago moved over to the Montclair area. My story is very similar to yours. I have been watching Bear for about a year and doing the things for many years. I caught my first livestream today and joined the forums today. I got my GMRS license so I can use Better com units, but need to study and take the Tech exam soon. I'm working on moving out of VA (possibly to WV), but just in case I don't get out before ALL heck breaks loose, I figured I had better reach out and find like-minded, local people. Reaching out makes me nervous...but going it alone makes me nervous too. How to trust anyone in these times is difficult. Today is my first step...
Im a fellow Navy guy as well just got out of active duty. Currently living about 1 or so north of Richmond.
We should meet up and compare notes. These are some crazy days we are headed into. Never a bad idea to network.
@slcromwell66 Agreed. I feel these days will only get worse. my email is monox2049@gmail.com
